Hardin studied at Patrick Henry Junior High School and then she joined Ulysses S. Grant High School. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College.

Hardin began dating British actor Gildart Jackson and the couple got married on June 4, 1997. They welcomed their first child a daughter Rory Jackson on September 29, 2001, and she gave birth to their second child a daughter Piper Quincey Jackson in 2005.

Melora is well known for her Jan Levinson role in the television series The Office from 2005 to 2013, and she is also famous for Trudy Monk’s role in the television series Monk from 2004 to 2009. She started her acting career with Sheila’s role in the television series Police Story in 1976, and she portrayed Carmel’s role in her debut feature film The North Avenue Irregulars in 1978. Hardin played Frances Baby Kellerman’s role in the television series Dirty Dancing from 1988 to 1989, and she also appeared as Cindy Prescott in the television show Thunder in 1977. She portrayed the stunning Carol’s role in the movie The Hot Chick in 2002, and she starred as Principal Jane Masterson in the movie 17 Again in 2009.
